Business Leaders Meet w/ Candidate, Discuss Economic Development

I am holding a virtual business leader discussion – Sunday, February 27th at 4PM. Register now at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_CnlPt1eYTpaLheLakz3KTQ

Please review my page on Economic Development prior to meeting, if possible. Doing this homework will be helpful for a robust discussion! I am looking forward to meeting with local business leaders. County Government – by nature of its service profile – is an important partner in economic development. If you are a business owner or manager – be aware that I would like to drill into your specific concerns, questions and recommendations.

I want the business community to experience that I am available for questions and concerns. As a Commissioner I want to keep the business specific dialogue agile and open. It is difficult for business owners to find time to voice their views at 10 AM every Wednesday for a County Commissioner meeting. I will show up at a time that works for you. Consider this meeting a first of many to come at times and dates that may vary as the community needs flexibility to meet.

Prior to working for the County I spent many years marketing and advertising local businesses. For over ten years I had one on one relationships with owners and managers trying to survive, thrive and support their families as small businesses. I recall fondly many discussions and strategies to bring new business through the doors.

Making the leap into owning a small business REALLY brought the reality into the fold. Owning a small business included some of the most liberating moments of my professional career. I was fortunate to take those skills into my current position at the County. But, I often missed the freedom and the risk. Running for County Commissioner is an opportunity for me to recapture the vitality! Although, as a Commissioner, the responsibility is arguably much more than what I once experienced as an entrepreneur and start up.

County Government is a fundamental facilitator of economic development in Lincoln County. This discussion is an opportunity for local business owners and managers to explore specific topics that relate to their businesses and explore the support they might need from the County Commission. I hope you can make time for a discussion!

I greatly appreciate your financial support for my independent leadership. I chose to be unaffiliated with any political party – many years ago… before we began experiencing our current political divide. Click here to Donate!

My leadership will demonstrate that county government can function to serve all of it constituents with a balance of fiscal responsibility, economic & community development, social equity, public safety, and environmental accountability.

To do this work we need all voices at the table. I hope you will pull up a chair. Let’s look beyond polarized partisanship and encourage a fact-based government approach. Click here to Donate!

Your contribution will be used for advertising and outreach – especially to our community members who do not use internet or social media.

There are other ways to provide support. Send me a direct message with your testimonial. Put up a lawn sign.  Share my website and posts on your social media pages. Word of mouth is greatly appreciated. Tell your friends and family that you are voting for Casey Miller for County Commissioner.

As I contemplated running for office, I did not want to ask for financial contributions.  Over the years I’ve had a growing disdain for how money manipulates elections at the national level. I think many of us are aware that the game is rather rigged. Until we overturn Citizens United and remove BIG money from politics – power will consolidate into the hands with the most cash to spend. It will remain difficult for grass root efforts to prevail with the current system in place.

Thankfully, at a local level of government campaign financing is somewhat easier for us to measure the validity of choices in elections. You can call me. I will continue to answer your questions online. My detailed website is an effort to show you who I am. While I wish there was a way that our votes not be reduced to who spends the most on advertising, I can’t rule out that another candidate will flood our community’s mailboxes. As our small businesses and entrepreneurs know, advertising is often necessary. I need your support to make it across the finish line in this election.

In the big picture I am learning and seeing more clearly the challenges our community faces regarding communication.  Throughout COVID, during (and after) our wildfires I began to realize some fundamental shortcomings county government needs to resolve about how well it communicates to all its citizens. Moving forward county government needs coordinated investments to provide outreach to our vulnerable populations. This includes our senior citizens who do not use internet. This includes our populations who do not speak English. Waiting and hoping for an article to appear in the local newspaper (while appreciated) is simply not enough. We need direct outreach that meets our community where they are.

If this is your first-time hearing from me, please visit my website and/or look deeper into the pages here on social media. I am asking that you make a strategic leap of faith! Let’s do good things together… Lets GO!
